FILLING THE VOID. Bonbon Batiller and Ian Alban, if both their transfers push through, are out to help Arellano reach the promised land.
Knowing very well that it has a big hole to fill with the exit of Jiovani Jalalon, Arellano University is pulling out all the stops.
The steering wheel is now Kent Salado’s to control, but the seat beside him remains up for grabs.
That is exactly why the Chiefs are set to welcome former University of the East scorer Bonbon Batiller and former Lyceum of the Philippines playmaker Ian Alban.
Alban’s move from Intramuros to Legarda is final and he is set to reunite with former Fatima University teammate Lervin Flores. He averaged 7.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.2 assists for the Pirates last season.
On the other hand, Batiller’s transfer is only awaiting clearance from UE. He normed 10.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.6 steals in his up-and-down two years in red and white.
Both guards are expected, along with former Brave Guilmer dela Torre, to take turns in acting as Salado’s running mate. However, all three will only be eligible to play in Season 94.
Arellano has made the Finals in two of the last three years on the back of Jalalon, but have settled for runner-up finishes both times. Even without him, they remain determined to break through.
As earlier reported, another former LPU player in Joseph Gabayni will also be joining the Chiefs a year from now.
