Bittersweet PBA exit for Lou Amundson

Bittersweet PBA exit for Lou Amundson
"It's kind of bittersweet. I like it here and my teammates are great people, coaches are great people." --- Lou Amundson after leaving TNT ater just two games.

The Lou Amundson era in TNT had a definite expiration date.

TNT knew it, Lou knew it. But regardless of the fact, it didn't stop both parties from having a great relationship and an amicable breakup even after just two games in the 2017 PBA Commissioner's Cup.

"From the very beginning, after [Denzel] Bowles left we signed up Donte Greene," head coach Nash Racela on his team's import situation.

"It just happened na yung papers niya di umabot. For precaution, we looked for a replacement just for this weekend and that's why we're very lucky and appreciative of what Lou Amundson did for us. Isang tawag lang, right away he committed to play for us and we're very thankful for him," he added.

Despite Amundson only ended up playing two games in three days for the KaTropa, the NBA veteran provided the usual numbers one might expect from a type of import TNT usually prefers.

Amundson scored 19 points and grabbed 18 rebounds on March 25 in a loss to the Meralco Bolts before turning around and adding another 20 points and eight rebounds in a big win over Phoenix two days later.

"He was very professional in handling the situation knowing that another import was flying in," Racela added of Amundson.

For Amundson, who played for 10 NBA teams since 2007, mixed emotions naturally filled his exit in the PBA.

"Really, it's kind of bittersweet. I like it here and my teammates are great people, coaches are great people," he said.

"I'm just blessed with this opportunity and to be on this team for this short amount of time, it's really enjoyable and I was able to get good experience here," the former UNLV product added.

Ever the professional, Amundson already has some thoughts on his former team's new reinforcement.

Amundson feels TNT is going to do great with Greene, a fellow NBA vet.

"I think he will be fine. He's a great scorer.  He shoots the ball from deep and just a talented scorer. He’s going to bring that scoring punch when Jayson is not with the team and I think he’ll integrate nicely," he said.
