Jio Jalalon was the epitome of cool and calm as he stepped in for a game-winner in Star's close victory over NLEX.
We see you rook.
Jio Jalalon made perhaps the biggest shot of his PBA life, sinking a baseline jumper at the buzzer to help Star escape a hungry NLEX side in the 2017 PBA Commissioner's Cup, 105-103, Friday at the Big Dome.
Tied at 103-all with 30.4 seconds to go after a pair of Tony Mitchell free throws, the Hotshots had the opportunity to go for the win as the Road Warriors failed to convert on the other end.
With time winding down, Mitchell found Jalalon on the corner who then calmly stepped in for a jumper at the buzzer. His clutch basket gave the Hotshots their third win in as many games in the mid-season conference.
"The instruction is we need to make a stop, and kung maka-recover kami, I called a play for Paul [Lee]," head coach Chito Victolero said as Star went on in the final 30 seconds without a timeout.
"Paul created the situation and it was a nice pass by Tony [Mitchell] to Jio [Jalalon]," he added.
Allein Maliksi actually led Star in scoring, finishing with 24 points to go along with six rebounds while Mitchell dropped 23, 15 in the fourth, on top of 15 boards.
Jalalon was good for 16 points, six rebounds, and four assists.
Winning their first two games by a combined 45 points, the Hotshots were well on their way to another easy win after opening up a 21-point lead in the first half, 51-30.
However, the Road Warriors responded with a 40-point third quarter to turn things around and were even in control late in the fourth period as Wayne Chism and Kevin Alas tried to power NLEX to victory.
It wasn't meant to be though as the Road Warriors now stumbled to four straight defeats in the Commissioner's Cup.
Still, Chism accounted for 33 points and 19 rebounds while Carlo Lastimosa and Alas combined for 22 as the team's top two locals.
