Dylan Ababou has been traded again.

In the last two years alone, one of the original members of the Gilas Pilipinas program has been shipped four times, bouncing from team-to-team, struggling to fit in and get a meaningful role.

However, his latest move, this time from Blackwater to Globalport, appears to be the start of a revival of sorts for the former UAAP champion and Most Valuable Player.

Playing his first game for the Batang Pier Wednesday night, Ababou got a starting role and promptly dropped 17 points on 60 percent shooting, emerging as the team's second-best local against Brgy. Ginebra.

Getting a surprise starting job and feeling the trust of head coach Franz Pumaren must have a lit a fire on the former UST Growling Tiger as Ababou looks ready to finally flip the proverbial switch in this new PBA opportunity.

"Medyo na-surprise ako, kaya medyo nag-mindset ako na kailangan, aggressive ako, kasi first 5 ako," he said.

"Kailangan ma-set namin yung tone, kailangan maganda ang maipakita ko kasi kailangan maganda ang impression ko kay Coach Franz. Nagkaroon ako ng confidence kasi ibig sabihin, nilagay ni coach Franz yung trust niya sa akin kaya first unit ako," Ababou added.

Trading away a more proven gunner in KG Canaleta to acquire Ababou, it looks like Pumaren is seeing something on the Dylan that the normal eye cannot.

"That's why he's with us because I know what he's capable of doing," Pumaren said.

"He’s still groping for form and kinda not in game shape. But he can help us down the line. My job here is a never ending process of trying to put in the right pieces," he added.

With that in mind, Ababou looks to prove his new coach right as the team continues to move forward despite a rather lackluster start to the mid-season conference.

"Thankful ako kay Coach Franz, binigyan niya nga ako ng minuto. Ayun, masaya ako kasi kumbaga, nakatulong ako sa team, 'yun nga lang on a losing cause. Ang mindset ko ngayon, keep on improving lang at paano pa ako makakatulong sa GlobalPort," Ababou said.
