ON. Aby Marano fired up Robert Bolick at halftime so much so that he scored eight of his 14 points in the third quarter.
According to Robert Bolick, it was something Aby Marano said that that turned things around for him in the most important game of the 2017 PBA D-League Aspirants Cup.
Bolick’s longtime girlfriend apparently told him, after his subpar first half, “Kaya nga umayos ako kasi nung first half, pinuntahan niya ako, nagalit pa.”
He then continued, “Sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Okay, sige, I’ll play like a champion.’ Eventually, yun na nga nangyari.”
On the contrary, Marano said she didn’t go all beast mode on her man. “’Di ko siya pinagalitan,” she said while laughing.
She then continued, “Nanggigigil na kasi ako dun sa pwesto ko sa taas. ‘Di ako mapakali kasi nakikita ko nung first half, hindi yung championship na larong inaasahan ko from him.”
The volleyball star then went on to say that at halftime break, she made it a point to stand where the Hawkeyes were going walk after coming out of the dugout. “Sakto siya unang lumabas. Paglabas pa lang niya, nakita na niya ako at alam na namin yung tinginan namin na yun,” she said.
She then continued, “Paglapit niya, sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Yung larong championship. Mag-step up ka.’ Ganun kasi yung relationship namin e, we’re like teammates.”
Step up, Bolick did and he swiftly scored eight of his 14 points in the third quarter. It was also his two free throws in the dying seconds that sealed the deal for Cignal.
In the end, Marano proved to be just the boost Bolick needed to wrap up his championship and MVP season. “Hindi kasi kami yung pa-tweetums na, ‘Babe, let’s go, kaya mo yan!’ Beast mode talaga ,” she expressed.
So, Aby Marano, Queen Hawkeye?
