FINDERS KEEPERS. Robert Bolick is a champion - on and off the court.
Once the final buzzer sounded on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena and they stood as the kings of the hill in the 2017 PBA D-League Aspirants Cup, the Cignal Hawkeyes mobbed one another.
After congratulating his teammates and his coaches, Robert Bolick then crossed the court and approached his number one fan.
The two embraced before sharing an intimate kiss to the cheers of everybody around them.
Of course, it was longtime girlfriend Aby Marano whom Bolick had a special moment with. Asked about it afterward, he said while smiling, “Inspiration eh.”
Marano was in attendance for all three championship games, but her presence in Game 3 may have very well proved to be the most important of all. “Kaya nga umayos ako kasi nung first half, pinuntahan niya ako, nagalit pa,” he said.
He then continued, “Sabi ko sa kanya, ‘Okay, sige, I’ll play like a champion.’ Eventually, yun na nga nangyari.”
Bolick was talking about the halftime break when Marano apparently told him, “Yung larong champion. Mag-step up ka.”
Step up, he did and swiftly scored eight of his 14 points in the third quarter. It was also his two free throws in the dying seconds that sealed the deal for Cignal.
Now a D-League champion and MVP, Bolick expressed, “Masaya no? Naisip ko nga na kapag nag-champion ako rito, nag-champion na ako sa UAAP, NCAA, and D-League.”
He then continued, “Blessing talaga kay God.”
And to top it all off, he had his longtime girlfriend by his side to celebrate.
April 6, 2017 – without a doubt, a day that will live in memory for Robert Bolick.
