Singapore puts out the fire in Alab Pilipinas’ season
SO LONG, FAREWELL. Kiefer Ravena and Alab Pilipinas have bowed out of the ABL.

BALIWAG, BULACAN – A full-house crowd of Filipinos filled the Baliwag Star Arena on Friday to boost the bid of Alab Pilipinas to stay alive.

Visiting Singapore wasted no time in silencing all of them, however, en route to another domination of the Filipinos, this time a 82-64 rout that emphatically ends this matchup in the semifinals of the 2016-2017 Asean Basketball League.

With two consecutive victories, the Slingers are now into the Finals for the second straight season. There, they await the victor between Hong Kong and Saigon.

Kiefer Ravena was inserted into the starting lineup in only his second game for the Philippine side, but that adjustment proved to be too little too late for head coach Mac Cuan.

Ravena had 16 points, four rebounds, and four assists and Lo Domingo contributed 18 markers and 13 boards of his own, but with Ray Parks Jr. still sidelined by various injuries, Alab’s campaign fell short of its ultimate goal.

It was still a close contest early on with the Filipinos actually on top by one, 12-11, until Xavier Alexander poured in eight straight points in a 13-2 push that gave Singapore a 24-14 lead after the first quarter.

Ravena and Domingo willed the home team back in the game in the third quarter with the former’s triple nearing the gap to only 51-57.

Filipino-American Josh Urbiztondo steadied the ship for the Slingers, however, with five straight points to cap-off a 17-4 burst and a 74-55 advantage.

The Philippines would not be able to threaten for the remainder of the game.
