Chot wary of two countries as SEABA joust draws near

National team head coach Chot Reyes has his eyes on two countries that can give Gilas Pilipinas the most problems in the 2017 SEABA Championships.
Even if the Gilas program is in the middle of a transition state, the Philippines remain as the heavy favorite heading into the 2017 SEABA Championships to be hosted by Manila next month.
However, even if Gilas Pilipinas continue to maintain its status as the region's undisputed powerhouse, it's foolish to discount the improvements made by our neighboring countries.
That's why even if he's intent on fielding the country's best available talent for the May 12-18 joust, national team head coach Chot Reyes remains wary of the competition.
He has his eyes set on two countries in particular.
"Thailand and Indonesia have 2-3 naturalized players... Lahat tinitignan natin as serious competition," Reyes said on Tuesday via Camille Naredo of ABS-CBN News.
With the SEABA championships offering only one regional spot to the 2017 FIBA Asia Cup, the Philippines simply cannot afford to suffer a setback in Manila.
"We have no room for error in this tournament," Reyes said.
Gilas Pilipinas will open SEABA on May 12 against unranked Myanmar.
