ARCHRIVAL. San Beda-backed Cignal bested in the PBA D-League Finals a Racal side made up of several stars from the other NCAA squads - including Letran's Rey Nambatac.
San Beda College reclaimed its place at the top of the hill in the NCAA.
Months later, they then extended their reign to the PBA D-League as a Cignal squad half made up of Red Lions claimed the championship.
There, Cignal-San Beda bested a Racal side made up by many stars it will face in the oncoming NCAA wars –Arellano University’s Lervin Flores and Kent Salado, Emilio Aguinaldo College’s Sidney Onwubere, University of Perpetual Help’s Gab Dagangon.
Most of all, perhaps, there also was Rey Nambatac of archrival Colegio de San Juan de Letran.
And for Nambatac, without a doubt, all of them will be using this title defeat to the Red Lions as motivation. “Of course, lalong tulak pa ‘to kasi makakalaban namin ulit sila sa NCAA. At least, maganda rin nangyari sa D-League kasi medyo gamay na namin yung (San) Beda,” he said.
For his part, the graduating Knight said he had no regrets about his performance through the tournament. As he put it, “Ako, binigay ko yung best ko and binigay din naman namin yung best namin. It just so happened lang na mas ginusto ng kalaban na mag-champion.”
And in the end, Nambatac said the Tile Masters still made it to their first-ever Finals in franchise history. “Masaya yung Racal from the management to the coaching staff kasi ‘di naman nila akalain na umabot sa unang Finals,” he said.
He then continued, “Basta sinabi lang nila na gamitin na lang ‘tong motivation next time – sa D-League man o sa NCAA.”
