I'M HERE. Josh Urbiztondo is hoping he and Singapore get the support of his basketball-loving homeland.
Alab Pilipinas are no longer in the running in the 2016-2017 Asean Basketball League.
And it’s all because of Singapore which blanked the Filipinos in the semifinals and booted them out of contention.
Despite that fact, Filipino-American Josh Urbiztondo is nothing but hoping that his basketball-loving homeland sides with him and the Slingers in the Finals.
The reason being – he’s a Singapore Slinger. As he put it, “I’m fighting not only for me, I’m fighting for all the Filipinos. Even though we just beat them, I will leave it all out there for them.”
He then continued, “We have a lot of Filipinos in Singapore so hopefully, they come support us since Alab’s no longer in the running.”
Urbiztondo and Singapore wage war against title favorite Hong Kong in the best-of-five championship round. Games 1 and 2 will be in Hong Kong while Game 3 – and, if necessary, Game 4 – will be in Singapore.
According to the 34-year-old, his kababayans will not be disappointed when they shift their support to the Slingers – the underdog in this matchup. “I think we have a great chance. We just have to focus on us and what we have to do,” he said.
He then continued, “I really think we can win the Singapore Slingers their first championship in history.”
