EARLY EXIT. Calvin Abueva had to leave Gilas Pilipinas practice sooner than expected.
Calvin Abueva was bringing the intensity in the first day of Gilas Pilipinas’ day-to-day training sessions on Monday at the Kerry Sports Manila in Taguig.
Unfortunately, his day was cut short after only an hour because of an inadvertent hit from teammate Almond Vosotros.
Vosotros collided with Abueva during scrimmage which then resulted to both of them on the floor.
The two took no time in getting back up, but at that point, Abueva was covering his mouth.
Apparently, Abueva sustained a cut in his inner upper lip. “Putok lang sa labi,” team manager Butch Antonio said, allaying earlier worries of a lost tooth.
After a while of icing his lip, Abueva exited the training session. According to Antonio, he is headed to Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan for treatment.
The good news is, in the eyes of head coach Chot Reyes, Abueva will not be missing any time. “It’s nothing serious. Calvin should be okay,” he said.
