Beermen make quick work of Mahindra to remain perfect
The win extended San Miguel's current perfect run in the mid-season joust, improving its record to a league-best 4-0.

Mahindra didn't stand a chance.

The San Miguel juggernaut continued to plow through the competition in the 2017 PBA Commissioner's Cup as the Beermen scored an easy 109-80 victory over the Floodbuster Wednesday at the Cuneta Astrodome.

The win extended San Miguel's current perfect run in the mid-season joust, improving its record to a league-best 4-0.

Alex Cabagnot made sure the Floobuster knew early on they were in for a long night as San Miguel's resident Clutch man scored 16 points in the first period, matching Mahindra's  entire output as a team.

From the point on, the Beermen went on to dominate the whole game, even leading by as many as  34 points early in the fourth quarter, 95-61.

Cabagnot ended up with 26 points, eight rebounds, and four assists, while import Charles Rhodes was once again effective, dropping a 20-point, 18-rebound double-double.

Marcio Lassiter torched the Floodbuster with 18 built around six treys. San Miguel had it too easy in the latter part of the game that the team had the luxury of sitting out June Mar Fajardo in the second half.

The reigning three-time MVP only played a shade under nine minutes and was scoreless in a game for the first time in four years.

"Prior to this game we were looking at the stats of Mahindra against those teams na tinalo sila ng very close, small margins, ‘yung Talk ’N Text, Alaska, Rain or Shine. That’s why the players nalagay sa utak nila na we cannot take this team for granted dahil in the past lagi kami tinatalo nitong Mahindra eh," head coach Leo Austria said.

"Tumatak sa isip nila na we cannot relax against this team. Of course alam naman natin na every win is kailangan e. I was surprised, ‘yung mga players talagang nilaro nila ‘yung dapat nilang laro," he added.

Keith Wright led Mahindra with 16 points and 12 boards but the former Ivy League star struggled shooting from the field.

With Senator Manny Pacquiao in attendance, the Floodbuster dropped a fourth straight game for a 1-6 record.
