The University of Cebu Mariners squad will represent the Visayas in the Under Armour U-18 3x3 tournament National Finals starting Friday.
University of Cebu will represent the Visayas region in the Under Armour Under-18 3x3 Tournament National Finals following a 15-14 win over University of Visayas in the Cebu leg championship game at the City Sports Club, Ayala Center.
The Mariners quartet of John Bryl Cuyos, Alen Pelegrino, Emmanuelle Bautista and Virlou Orquez and their coach Jover Samonte thus earned an all-expense paid accommodation and round-trip to Manila for the National Finals set from April 28-30.
University of Southeastern Philippines Foundation tabbed third place in the Cebu leg that attracted 73 teams and 300 players from Cebu and neighboring provinces in the region.
The event aims to select players who will compose the national team to the FIBA 3x3 U18 Asia Cup from May 26 to 28 at the Cyberjaya Gem-In Mall in Malaysia.
The Under Armour 3x3 Tournament now heads to Bonifacio Global City in Taguig where players from Manila and nearby areas can get a chance to vie for spots in the national 3x3 team.
To drumbeat the activities in the coming weekend, the first-ever UA Basketball Clinic was held Wednesday at the Bonifacio Global City Love Court.
In the clinic, newest UA gears were introduced while selected participants of UA 3x3 and the Under Armour Basketball Clinic got first-hand trial runs supervised by coach Louie Gonzales, Christian Luanzon, Eddie Laure and Eric Dela Cuesta at the Love Court.
Aside from the 18-under division, Under Armour also created an Open Category for passionate basketball players, local or non-resident, aged 19 to 50 as they also get the chance of pitting their skills against different teams.
