"Puso" in full display as Gilas takes down loaded Luzon All-Stars

Gilas Pilipinas erased a 17-point deficit to take down the loaded Luzon All-Stars at Lucena City.
LUCENA CITY --- Showing incredible heart, Gilas Pilipinas erased a 17-point deficit to take their first decision in the 2017 PBA All-Star Games.
The national team went on a 17-0 closing run, beating the Luzon All-Stars, 122-111, Friday at the Quezon Convention Center here.
Down 105-111 with 4:46 to go, Gilas Pilipinas went on a rampage to win their first game of these All-Stars, bouncing back nicely after a draw against the Mindanao selection at Cagayan De Oro Wednesday.
Kevin Ferrer started the run with a fastbreak layup before LA Revilla found Carl Bryan Cruz for a corner triple to cut the deficit to only 1, 110-111, with 3:55 left.
Ferrer then completed the Gilas comeback with a booming trey less than a minute later as the national team took over with a two-point lead. Chot Reyes' crew would score eight more points to complete the win and stun a Luzon side that controlled almost the entire game until it fired blanks in the final period.
"I thought there’s no way we could get back with the way the other team was playing. Those were very good players, veterans who were playing and shooting very well," Reyes said.
"But again, I’m not surprised because that’s what the Gilas program is made of, what it’s all about: never giving up, never quitting. That’s all I said in the huddle when we were down. I said this is your opportunity to show us, to show me how much you want to be part of Gilas and how much you understand what the culture is all about," he added.
Jonathan Grey came off the bench to lead Gilas in scoring with 19 points while MVP Matthew Wright added 15 points and seven assists while also on a reserve role.
Mike Tolomia (15 points), Cruz (13 points), Rosario (12 points), and Almazan (10 points) all finished in double figures.
Leading by 17 points in the third period, Luzon absolutely collapse in the final 12 minutes, losing the fourth quarter by 20 points, 17-37.
Japeth Aguilar led the team coached by San Miguel's Leo Austria with 18 points and 10 rebounds while Calvin Abueva was good for 16. Stanley Pringle scored 15 points while the Beermen duo of Alex Cabagnot and Marcio Lassiter added 12 apiece.
