RR Garcia will have to hold the fort for TNT with Jayson Castro out because of Gilas Pilipinas.
RR Garcia's first game for TNT after the KaTropa acquired him via trade couldn't have better timing.
With Jayson Castro out because of his Gilas Pilipinas duties, the former UAAP Most Valuable Player was put into position as TNT's main point guard right off the bat Friday.
The opponent? San Miguel Beer, aka the team that traded Garcia to the KaTropa.
While his debut with the flagship MVP franchise went well overall as TNT managed to stop the rampaging Beermen, Garcia almost had a horrifying experience after a late turnover allowed the Beermen to cut a once 14-point deficit to only two with 1:36 to go.
"Pagod na rin eh. Kwan naman, darating na rin sakin yun na ganun. Kailangan lang magtulungan," he said.
Fortunately for him, Larry Fonacier and Donte Greene bailed him out in the clutch and Garcia gets one over his former team.
"Di lang naman ako yung magpa-panalo jan. Syempre as a team pa rin naman eh," Garcia said as he finished with 12 points, two rebounds, and three assists in 24 minutes.
Taking over Castro's spot as the Blur leads Gilas Pilipinas, Garcia is aware the responsibility is huge enough. However, he's confident he can hold the fort for TNT while Castro is out.
"Yung scoring, syempre mabigat yung role na iniwan sakin dito," Garcia said.
"Alam ko naman yung sistema ni coach, yung mga dapat na gagawin ko. Syempre masaya din ako," he added.
