Yes it's a duel but he's scared to guard me though. I guard him but he won't guard me. Don't talk trash to me if he won't guard me -- Beermen import Charles Rhodes
There’s no love lost between San Miguel import Charles Rhodes and Talk ‘N Text reinforcement Donte Greene.
Rhodes definitely wanted Greene to know about it.
The Beermen import played his best game of the season after he dropped 43 points but his efforts came into naught as SMB’s erstwhile clean record received its first blemish in six games courtesy of Greene and the KaTropa, 103-112, Friday in the 2017 PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Big Dome.
It was a duel of reinforcements as both sides played sans their respective stars. SMB missed the service of big man June Mar Fajardo while TNT played without Jason Castro, Troy Rosario and RR Pogoy who are all members of the national team that will see action in the 2017 SEABA Championships.
Clearly Greene outdueled his SMB counterpart with 41 points and 21 rebounds he laced with four assists and a couple of blocks on top of a win that improved TNT’s record to 5-2, but Rhodes thought he did more and was the better player in their battle.
It seemed like the two had few ‘intimate’ exchanges during their game and Greene definitely even after the match was not done yet.
“Yes it's a duel but he's scared to guard me though. I guard him but he won't guard me. Don't talk trash to me if he won't guard me,” he said, adding color to an already interesting rivalry.
“Been telling him the whole game, 'guard me, guard me' whatever,” added Rhodes, who had eight rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks.
Rhodes, who worked for 44 minutes, claimed that Greene didn’t give quite the challenge he expected and according to him was a sign that the KaTropa import was afraid of him.
“He didn't challenge me. He's scared to guard me,” was his continued shot at Greene, who saw action 11 minutes shorter that Rhodes. “I'm not scared to guard him. Definitely not.”
“I played more minutes, this is the most minutes I played. So I was real fatigued,” Rhodes added. “He kept sitting back, he won't guard me and that's why he's getting all those points cause he was fresh.”
“Make sure you put that out,” he told reporters.
Rhodes even declared that he wants to take another shot at the KaTropa and Greene.
“I hope we meet them in the playoffs, finals, semifinals or something. I want to play them again for sure,” he said. “We'll have my man (June Mar Fajardo) back and we'll have Matt (Ganuelas Rosser) so it will be great. I definitely want them again.”
