Thailand takes early SEABA lead after smashing Vietnam
After overcoming a slow start to beat Malaysia Friday, Thailand has seized the early lead in the FIBA Asia qualifier with a clean 2-0 mark.

Manila, Philippines --- Even without leading scorer Chitchai Ananti, Thailand was able to make quick work of the debuting Vietnamese in the 2017 SEABA Championships.

The Thais kept their unbeaten slate Saturday in the regional showcase at the Araneta Coliseum here, scoring a convincing 76-51 win against Vietnam.

After overcoming a slow start to beat Malaysia Friday, Thailand has seized the early lead  in the FIBA Asia qualifier with a clean 2-0 mark.

Behind a balanced scoring attack, tha Thais started on a 22-6 run and never looked back.

Come the second half, Thailand led by as many as 28 points before cruising to a 25-point victory.

Six players scored at least nine points for the Thais led by Kannut Samerjai with 14. Wutipong Dasom scored 11 while Anuruk Lodliang was good for 10 points.

Ananti, who led Thailand in scoring against Malaysia with 24 points, sat out Saturday's game with an injury. He wend down Friday after taking a knee to his shin.

Van Hung Nguyen and Vu Linh Tran paced the now 0-1 Vietnam with 10 points apiece.

THAILAND 76 - Samerjai 14, Dasom 11, Lodliang 10, Jaisanuk 9, Ghogar 9, Chanthachon 9, Sunthonsiri 7, P. Klahan 4, C. Klahan 2, Boonsern 1, Muangboon 0.

VIETNAM 51 - Tran 10, Nguyen VH 10, Nguyen TN 8, Le PT 7, Le NT 6, Nguyen HH 3, Trieu 3, To 2, Dang 2.

Quarters: 22-6. 40-22, 59-38, 76-51.
