Three in a row for Gilas Pilipinas after pummeling Malaysia
Gilas, winning all three of its games so far by an average of 69.6 points, joined Indonesia as the only unbeaten teams in the regional showcase with identical 3-0 marks.

Manila, Philippines --- There's just no stopping Gilas Pilipinas.

The Philippines made it three in a row in the 2017 SEABA Championships, pummeling Malaysia, 106-51, Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum here.

Gilas, winning all three of its games so far by an average of 69.6 points, joined Indonesia as the only unbeaten teams in the regional showcase with identical 3-0 marks.

Actually trailing for the first time in this tournament early in the first period, 0-2, the Philippines reeled off 13 straight points to once again establish its dominance early.

Behind a balanced offense with six players scoring in double figures and a stout defense, Gilas Pilipinas' road to the 2017 FIBA-Asia Cup remains smooth sailing.

"Today was all about mothers, I tolf the team before the game to play the way that would make their mothers proud," head coach Chot Reyes said.

"It's apt that we're playing this game on Mother's day. We had our people get some roses and give an opportunity to the players to show appreciation for the the people that brought them to this world. Hopefully, we were able to play in a way that would make our mothers proud. That was the theme of our game tonight," he added.

With his mom sitting near courtside, Andray Blatche led the Philippines with 13 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Troy Rosario also had 13 points while Matthew Wright came off the bench to add 12.

Jayson Castro meanwhile finally made his presence felt in SEABA, going for 10 points, four boards, three assists, and two steals in just 10 and a half minutes.

Malaysia, which remained winless in three outings, got 12 points from Yee Tong Heng and another 10 from Chun Hong Ting.

Gilas Pilipinas will take a break Monday before facing Thailand on Tuesday.
