FIRST TIME FOR EVERYTHING. Hiran Boateng did anything and everything to give Thailand win number one in the SEABA U16.
On the back of contributions from up and down the lineup, Thailand is on the board in the 2017 SEABA Under-16 Championship.
Arnagorn Homthuanlom pumped in 21 points and Hiran Boateng was all over the Araneta Coliseum on Tuesday as the Thais routed still winless Indonesia, 79-69.
Following a defeat to Malaysia, the boys from Bangkok scored a convincing victory to remain alive and kicking in the tournament.
The Indonesians began the ball game with back-to-back baskets only to be answered by a 23-9 run that granted Thailand a 23-13 lead after one.
The Thais’ advantage would blow up to as high as 16 as Boateng already had seven points, four steals, three rebounds, and three assists at the half.
Still, Indonesia kept coming and decreased their deficit to just 69-77 with 28 ticks to go.
Time wasn’t on their side, however, and Boateng and Homthuanlom’s splits from the stripe finished off win number one for Thailand.
Boateng wound up stuffing the stat sheet with 12 points, eight steals, five assists, and four rebounds.
Thailand will now move on and try to put the first blemish on the record of home team Philippines on Wednesday.
Felix Alexander paced the Indonesians with 21 points. Losers in all of their first three games, they bow out of contention.
Still, they hope to end their campaign on the right note when they take on Singapore also on Wednesday.
