Far Eastern University opened their 2017 FilOil Flying V Pre-season Premier Cup campaign on a high note.
Far Eastern University gave new coach Olsen Racela a welcome gift in their 2017 FilOil Flying V Pre-season Premier Cup debut Wednesday when the Tamaraws gored the College of St. Benilde Blazers, 73-67, at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
But Racela, who replaced his brother, Nash, was far from satisfied with his team’s performance especially in the fourth quarter when the Tams allowed the Blazers to score 20 points.
“Sinabi ko sa kanila na we have to play the whole 40 minutes especially sa fourth quarter,” said Racela, who saw his squad’s 64-47 lead heading into the payoff period melt with FEU scoring only nine the whole quarter. “Ang dami pa naming dapat gawin. We have to play consistent the whole 40 minutes.”
Transferee Hubert Cani finished with 18 points while Richard Escoto had 11 for the Morayta-based squad, who played without Nigerian center Prince Orizu as a disciplinary action for skipping team practice.
The Tams were in control the first three quarters before dipping in the fourth.
“We’re a work in progress, marami pa kaming kailangang gawin as a team,” said Racela.
CSB dropped its third match in four outings.
Clement Leutcheu had 11 points and nine rebound while JJ Domingo and Yankie Haruna finished with 11 and 10 markers, respectively, for the Blazers.
