Singapore rallies past Vietnam, takes 5th spot in SEABA

Manila, Philippines --- The Lion City had one run left and it used it perfectly against Vietnam.

Singapore took 5th place in the 2017 SEABA Championships Thursday at the Araneta Coliseum here, unloading a furious fourth-quarter rally to take down the Vietnamese, 73-60.

Tied at the half and still forced to a stalemate entering the final period, the Singaporeans flipped the switch in the last 10 minutes, picking up a second win in six games which is enough to secure the fifth spot in the seven-team field.

The Lion City finished with a 2-4 record.

Down by five, 51-56, Singapore dropped a 12-0 hammer on Vietnam, taking control with less than five minutes to go. The Singaporeans then clamped down on defense the rest of the way to leave Manila on a high note.

Four players scored in double figures for the Lion City with Larry Liew, Leon Kwek, and  Delvin Goh all dropping 15 points each.

Vietnam, who ended up with a 1-5 mark, got 17 points from Han Minh Trieu.
