HOMECOURT ADVANTAGE. Ultras Filipinas are making sure the support for Gilas Pilipinas is loud and clear at the venue each and every day.
For all of the past five games of Gilas Pilipinas in the 2017 SEABA Championship, their loudest supporters have had perfect attendance.
And their presence at the Araneta Coliseum is all the more welcome on Thursday as the Philippines wages war against Indonesia, in essence, for the gold medal.
The Indonesians, bolstered by the entry of naturalized Jamarr Johnson, are the only ones standing in the way of a clean sweep of the tournament by the Filipinos.
And Gilas will need all the help it can get to deny the upset bid.
Enter Ultras who will be there to cheer their lungs out. “Gusto talaga naming i-spread yung Ultras mentality na tinatawag – yung aggressive kind of support,” Daryll Jameson Agapa, one of their leaders, shared.
Ultras made a name for themselves in Philippine football, always seen giving life to the Rizal Memorial Stadium and the Azkals who have made it their home.
Now in the regional tournament in basketball, they are taking root somewhere new. “Yung mga neighboring countries kasi natin like Malaysia and Indonesia, sa football at basketball, ganun yung support nila. Gusto rin namin siyang gawin, kahit idealistic sabihin, maging standard (dito),” Agapa shared.

Safe to say, the passion that Ultras has been bringing to the ball games hasn’t gone unnoticed. From Gilas themselves to the fans at the venue or at home, their all-out support has been much appreciated.
And for Agapa, that’s just exactly what they need to keep doing what they’re doing. As he put it, “Thankful kami sa appreciation sa ginagawa naming pagbibigay ng confidence (sa Gilas). Thankful kami sa appreciation kasi nagbibigay rin sa amin yun ng boost to continue supporting them.”
