"Lahat ng 3-on-3 na sinalihan ko, champion ako lagi eh." --- JR Quinahan.
Looks like Team Philippines made the right call in adding JR Quinahan to the 3x3 team set to compete in the FIBA World Cup.
You know, the team that already includes Kobe Paras, Kiefer Ravena, and Jeron Teng.
Why is it the right call you ask? Well it seems like JR Quinahan is to 3x3 basketball the same way Cherry Rondina is to beach volleyball.
If your have one on your team, you'll probably win.
Sure, Quinahan joining the young ones as the Philippines' representatives does not actually guarantee victory but are chances are better now with the veteran forward in tow.
"Hindi na bago yung 3-on-3," Quinahan said who already once represented the country 15 years ago during the 2002 Adidas Streetball tournament.
"Siguro mas malalaki lang yung kalaban kasi world eh tapos ibang roles nila. Siguro baka may chance tayo o swertehin at makapag-champion ulit, kasi lahat ng 3-on-3 na sinalihan ko, champion ako lagi eh," he added.
Cleared by NLEX to start practicing with the trio of young stars, Quinahan is now focusing on the chemistry needed to mesh with his new teammates.
"Every day. After ng practice namin (sa NLEX), minsan yung practice na 3-on-3 sa gabi. Para makapag-(jell) rin kami ng mga bata dun. Ako pala yung pinaka-bata dun," said the 33-year-old bruiser.
"Yung 3-on-3 naman, parang experience na rin. Marami na rin ako na-try dati. Nakapag-champion na rin ako sa Nike tapos yung Adidas dati way back 2002, champion kami. tinalo namin yung China," he added.
The FIBA 3x3 World Cup is set for June 17-21 in France. The Philippines will be facing European champions Romania and Slovenia as well as host country France and El Salvador in Group B.
