Jeron Teng, Kiefer Ravena, and Kobe Paras will all be on the same squad when the Philippines wages war in the 2017 FIBA 3X3 World Cup.
Of course, seasoned veteran JR Quinahan will also be there.
Still, the three youngsters are recognizing that this is their time to raise the country’s flag. As Teng put it, “We’re all here because we want to prove something. We think we’re the youngest team kaya we really have a chip on our shoulder.”
Being what could be considered a dream team with a US prospect in Paras, a two-time UAAP MVP in Ravena, a multiple-time champion in Teng, and Quinahan, Team Philippines also acknowledges that high expectations have been set for them.
Nonetheless, Teng and company just intend to use that as extra fuel. “Of course, may kaunting pressure, but pressure helps in order for you to perform better,” he expressed.
Also helping is the fact that the Filipino youngsters know each other pretty well. “Kami naman ni Kiefer, we go all-out when it comes to playing for the country. So kaming lahat, we just have to play together to win,” Teng said.
For his part, Paras, who is the youngest among the four, said he is also already going all-out. “I’ve been keeping up with Kiefer and Jeron. Just seeing them play and learning from them, it’s a great experience,” he said.
Chooks-Pilipinas 3X3 will be facing European champions Romania and Slovenia as well as host country France and El Salvador in Group B. The tournament will run from June 17 to 21 in Nantes, France.
