Philippines falls to Qatar, Malaysia in FIBA Asia 3X3 U18

A young Philippine team was upended by a regional rival in the 2017 FIBA 3X3 Under-18 Asia Cup.
Behind the heroics of Zhong Shin Thea, 11th-ranked home team Malaysia upset Asian number two Philippines by a score of 21-17 on Saturday (Sunday, Philippine time).
As such, the Filipinos, with an average age of 16.75, were unable to come out of the pool phase unscathed.
With their 1-1 record, they moved on to face defending champion Qatar in the quarterfinals.
There, the Philippines was shown the door by a score of 17-20.
The team composed of Rhayyan Amsali, Michael Malonzo, Harvey Pagsanjan, and Andrew Velasco bow out of contention with only one win which came at the expense of Kazakhstan, 18-13.
Last year, the Filipinos finished as runners-up in the tournament.
