SECOND COMING. Kent Salado did his best impression of Jiovani Jalalon in Arellano's first win in the preseason.
As always, Kent Salado did it all at the Filoil Flying V Centre, Monday.
Just for the first time in the 2017 Filoil Flying V Preseason Tournament, however, all of it ended up in a win.
Salado tallied 30 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists and his team-up with Lervin Flores propelled the Chiefs past Emilio Aguinaldo College, 95-92.
With the now-High Chief’s efforts finally paying off after four games, head coach Jerry Codinera was nothing but proud. “It validates what we are doing. Kasi talagang we are still in the process with Salado (in the lead),” he said.
Still, Salado’s near triple-double was nearly all for naught as Arellano found itself trailing by six inside the last five minutes.
Fortunately for Codinera, Flores and Salado came alive and combined for half of the points in a 16-7 run that rallied them to a breakthrough victory.
Flores wound up with an 18-point, 15-rebound double-double together with five blocks, taking full advantage of the absence of Cameroonian Hamadou Laminou. “Maganda na naman talaga ang nilalaro ni Lervin,” Codinera expressed.
The Generals dropped to 2-4 despite the best efforts of Francis Munsayac and Sidney Onwubere who had 27 and 25 points, respectively.
