Aces fight for playoff life against streaking Star

Calvin Abueva is expected to be back in action as the Aces look to clinch a playoff spot and arrest a six-game losing skid.
One is chasing a top-2 spot, the other is fighting for dear life.
Such is the situation in the 2017 PBA Commissioner's Cup Wednesday as the streaking Star Hotshots collide with the reeling Alaska Aces.
Regardless of if they win or not, the Hotshots finishing in the top two is out of their reach especially since the team lost to both Ginebra and San Miguel, the other two teams chasing a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals.
But winning a fifth straight game to improve to a league-best 9-2 would certainly help their cause.
Meanwhile, the Aces are looking to arrest an alarming skid that has erased a perfect start.
After starting at 4-0, Alaska has dropped six straight games, tied for a team record, and is in danger of not actually making the playoffs.
Fortunately for the Aces, with defending champion Rain or Shine also limping towards to post-season, all they need to do is to win this one game and they are in.
Game time for this crucial Star-Alaska matchup is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Cuneta Astrodome.
In the first game at 4:15 p.m., the 7-2 Beermen will look to set themselves up for at least a top-3 finish against also-ran Blackwater (2-8).
