Rhodes avoiding foul trouble spells trouble for rest of PBA
Pretty much playing carefree basketball after only having two fouls in almost 40 minutes of play, Rhodes powered the Beermen against the Batang Pier, scoring 19 points in the fourth quarter alone.

Over the course of 10 games in the 2017 PBA Commissioner's Cup, San Miguel import Charles Rhodes wasn't exactly shy in giving up fouls.

Or referees weren't exactly shy of calling fouls on him.

Regardless of how you look at it, Rhodes was almost always in foul trouble for the Beermen, committing an average of 4.8 fouls per game.

But with San Miguel looking to clinch a twice-to-beat advantage in the quarterfinals Friday against Globalport, Rhodes finally gave a glimpse of just how good he can be without worrying if he'll get disqualified at any given time.

Pretty much playing carefree basketball after only having two fouls in almost 40 minutes of play, Rhodes powered the Beermen against the Batang Pier, scoring 19 points in the fourth quarter alone.

He scored a total of 34.

"Finally, it took me like 10 games to get used to it. Now I'm used to it and I understand," Rhodes said on PBA officiating.

"It was a process man, my first year playing in the Philippines, it was a process getting used to the referees but I got it now," he added.

Rhodes, who's been pretty explosive all tournament long for San Miguel, avoiding foul trouble and playing extended minutes sounds trouble for the rest of the league.

As the Beermen entered playoff mode rather early with their chase for a playoff bonus, Rhodes wants his team to keep their killer mentality regardless of who they play in the quarterfinals.

"We gotta get in playoff mode, today was the day," he said.

"Playoff time, everybody got to be ready. You can be the last placed team in the bottom of the playoffs, you come out playing like the number one team. Everybody just gotta have that mentality," Rhodes added.
