Castro's big game gives TNT a decisive win over Meralco
This is the first win by the KaTropa against Meralco all season long and the first since Game 1 of the 2016 Governors' Cup semifinals.

The KaTropa finally broke their dry spell against Meralco.

And they chose the perfect time to do it as well.

TNT took a 1-0 lead in its best-of-3 PBA Commissioner's Cup quarterfinals series against Meralco Monday, scoring an emphatic 102-84 decision at the Big Dome.

This is the first win by the KaTropa against Meralco all season long and the first since Game 1 of the 2016 Governors' Cup semifinals.

Jayson Castro was the star of the show for TNT, going for a game-high 25 points on top of seven rebounds, seven assists,  three steals, and two blocks.

The Blur was at the forefront of the KaTropa's attack, scoring nine points each in the first and fourth quarters as TNT took a wire-to-wire victory.

Going All-Filipino to start the game, TNT fired a 15-0 run to establish an early 21-6 advantage before pulling away again in the fourth, leading by as many as 24 points, 93-69.

"I think offensively, we were just blessed to have contributions from almost everybody to day," head coach Nash Racela said.

"That doesn't normally happen but at least today, it really helped us," he added.

Aside from Castro five other players scored at least nine points for TNT led by import Joshua Smith's 19 points off the bench.

Mo Tautuaa and Kelly Williams werre the other two players in double figures for the KaTropa, adding 13 and 10 points respectively.

With its defense allowing TNT to shoot 51 percent from the field, Meralco is now on te brink of elimination after losing a fourth straight game overall.

Chris Newsome led the Bolts with 21 points and Baser Amer added another 14 but it wasn't enough to give the Bolts a sixth consecutive win against their sister team.

Game 2 is on Wednesday at the Big Dome.
