LEADER OF THE PACK.
Displaying an all-around performance in San Miguel’s last two games in the Commissioner’s Cup eliminations, Filipino-American guard Chris Ross went on to earn the Accel-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week for the period of May 29 to June 4.
The 6-2 Ross averaged solid numbers of 15.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 10.0 assists, and 2.5 steals last week after leading the Beermen to victories over Blackwater and Globalport.
Those victories enabled San Miguel to clinch the second-seed in the quarterfinals along with one of the two twice-to-beat incentives at stake.
The 32-year-old guard helped the Beermen complete their comeback from a 16-point halftime deficit after finishing with 14 points, 13 assists, five rebounds, and three assists to beat the Elite, 124-113 last Wednesday.
Ross sustained his all-around game three days later as San Miguel officially clinched a twice-to-beat advantage with its 112-101 victory over the Batang Pier.
The Marshall University product is expected to elevate his game further at the start of the quarterfinals this week where the Beermen only need to win once against the seventh-ranked Phoenix Fuel Masters.
Ross, the Finals MVP in San Miguel’s last two Philippine Cup championships, beat out teammates Marcio Lassiter and June Mar Fajardo, Star guard Paul Lee, Ginebra’s Mark Caguioa and Japeth Aguilar as well as Globalport guards Terrence Romeo and Stanley Pringle for the weekly citation.
