SMB makes quick work of Phoenix to enter semis
San Miguel, taking full advantage of its twice-to-beat edge, advanced to a sixth straight semifinal appearance.

San Miguel's dominant run continues.

The no. 2 Beermen made quick work of Phoenix in the 2017 PBA Commissioner's Cup quarterfinals, taking an easy 115-96 win Tuesday at the Big Dome.

San Miguel, taking full advantage of its twice-to-beat edge, advanced to a sixth straight semifinal appearance.

The Beermen will face the winner of the Star and Rain or Shine series which the Hotshots currently lead, 1-0.

San Miguel broke the game wide open in the second period as the Beermen took a commanding 28-point lead, 51-23, after a 13-0 run.

It was never close after that.

"With this win, we're so happy because we were able to meet the expectations of so many people, especially the management," head coach Leo Austria said.

"They're expecting us to be in the semifinals. I have to commend all the player because they know what's at stake in this game. They really wanted to get into the semifinals right away because we don't want to have another game," he added.

San Miguel's local crew shined in this dominant win with Marcio Lassiter leading all scorers with 26 points while Alex Cabagnot, who leads the Best Player the Conference race, added another 20 on top of eight rebounds and six assists.

Reigning three-time league MVP June Mar Fajardo and Ronald Tubid added 15 and 14 points respectively for San Miguel. Chris Ross finished with an 11-point,  10-assist triple-double.

Phoenix, whose third straight quarterfinal apperance once again went for naught, got 20 points from import Jameel McKay.
