Amer on Gilas call-up: Reward sa lahat ng hard work ko
Making his official return to the national team after winning gold with Sinag during the 2015 Southeast Asian Games, Amer is about to make the most out of this "reward" that he just got.

Kobe Paras and co. are not the only new names added to the Gilas Pilipinas pool.

After a couple of blockbuster trades earlier this conference left Meralco and NLEX without "veteran" representatives to the Gilas pool, national team head coach Chot Reyes had to make some decisions when it comes to his lineup.

This opportunity paved the way to Baser Amer and Kevin Alas to replace Jonathan Grey and Bradwyn Guinto in the national team selection.

Both Grey and Guinto were traded to Globalport earlier in the Commissioner's Cup and Reyes is sticking with Terrence Romeo as his choice from the Batang Pier to be part of Gilas Pilipinas.

Amer, who has been incredible in the mid-season joust for the Bolts, proved his selection was worth it Wednesday in Game 3 of the quarterfinals against TNT.

While Reyes officially announced the change on his Twitter account with Game 3 still ongoing, Amer was nevertheless balling for Meralco, subconsciously making his case for the main Philippine roster.

"Gusto ko magpasalamat kay coach Chot na pinili niya ako sa Gilas," Amer said after his 25 points, nine rebounds, and four assists went down the drain with the Bolts losing Game 3 to TNT in overtime and thus eliminating them from contention.

He scored a career-high 32 points in Game 2.

"Dapat di ako maging comfortable kung ano yung na-achieve ko ngayon, pinakita ko this conference. Magta-trabaho pa rin ako," he added.

Making his official return to the national team after winning gold with Sinag during the 2015 Southeast Asian Games, Amer is about to make the most out of this "reward" that he just got.

"Reward sa lahat ng hard work ko, alam ng teammates ko, pati coaches, kung paano ako magsipag sa practice," the sophomore playmaker said.

With Gilas now with an influx of young guards after the call-up of Kiefer Ravena and Kobe Paras, Amer already has his work cut out for him.

That will not stop him from elevating his game again just like he did this conference.

"Sobrang excited ako, lalo na sa practice kasi lahat sila magagaling," Amer said.

"Mas gaganahan ka. Excited ako magpractice kasi magaling kasama ko at mai-improve ko kung nao yung dapat i-improve," he added.
