Generals put finishing touches on Cardinals’ winless preseason

BIG ENDING. Sidney Onwubere and EAC got for themselves a morale-boosting win heading into the NCAA Season.
Emilio Aguinaldo College fell short of fulfilling the goal they set for the 2017 Filoil Flying V Preseason.
Nonetheless, they are nothing but glad to be bringing over much-needed momentum for the oncoming NCAA Season.
Sidney Onwubere connived with Jerome Garcia and the Generals blitzed bottom-feeding Mapua University, 79-71, on Monday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Onwubere had 22 points and seven rebounds all while powering his team’s strong start of 24-11 after the first quarter. They would not look back the rest of the way.
EAC finishes the preseason with a 3-5 standing and, more importantly, finishes the preseason with a morale-boosting win. “At least, we were able to close this preseason with a win. We’re hoping we can carry this into the NCAA,” head coach Ariel Sison expressed.
Sison then went on to say that while they would have wanted to make the playoffs in the preseason tournament, they have also been encouraged by all the experience they earned. “Marami kaming close game and yun yung mga nagbigay sa amin ng magandang experience,” he said.
He then continued, “Sana, pagdating ng ganung sitwasyon ulit sa NCAA, ma-overcome na namin yung challenges.”
Garcia, a transferee from Adamson University, chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds of his own to help make up for the continued absence of towering Hamadou Laminou and veteran Francis Munsayac.
Come the NCAA Season in July, however, the Generals will be back in full force and are determined to make a breakthrough. Asked about his thoughts on their chances, a confident Sison answered, “We’re optimistic, we’re praying hard, we’re practicing hard just to be in the Final Four.”
He then continued, “We want it. We want it now.”
On the other hand, things aren’t as bright for the Cardinals who wrap up their preseason winless through eight games.
Andoy Estrella remained the lone bright spot for Atoy Co’s crew with 28 points, nine rebounds, and four assists.
The veteran guard will have to do even more heavy lifting in the upcoming NCAA Season as this Mapua team is not the same team that went to back-to-back Final Fours.
