THE BANK IS OPEN. Marcio Lassiter hit the game-winning three over Justin Melton to lift SMB to a Game 3 win over Star and a 2-1 series lead.
Super Marcio Lassiter gave San Miguel an extra life.
Down 108-110 and staring at a 1-2 series deficit to Star, Lassiter single-handedly bailed the Beermen out, banking in the game-winning three to give San Miguel a pulsating 111-110 victory Wednesday in Game 3 of the 2017 PBA Commissioner's Cup semifinals at the Big Dome.
After Ricardo Ratliffe scored 10 straight points for Star, including the go-ahead bucket over Charles Rhodes with 13 seconds to go, San Miguel initially went for a tie but Chris Ross' floater saw nothing but bricks.
Lassiter then ended up picking the loose ball near halfcourt, put moves on Justin Melton, before eventually going for a stepback triple that hit the board first before going in leaving 1.3 seconds on the clock.
Having no timeouts left, Rafi Reavis was forced to shoot a prayer for the Hotshots. It wasn't answered.
Taking a second straight one-point win over Star, the Beermen moved to within one win away from advancing to a second straight PBA Finals as they took a 2-1 lead in a best-of-5 affair.
"Well, ang masasabi ko, talagang swerte kami," head coach Leo Austria said after another escape act against Star.
"But ang swerte talagang pumupunta kapag magaling ang player eh, especially si Marcio. He's a big fan of Golden State, and he's taking a shot like [Steph] Curry," he added.
Before Marcio stole the game for San Miguel, it appeared that Ratliffe was destined to be the hero for Game 3, leading Star's comeback from being down by as many as 12 points.
Charles Rhodes led the Beermen with 36 points while Chris Ross had a sensational all-around outing, pumping 27 points, eight rebounds, eight assists, three steals, and one block.
June Mar Fajardo added 18 while Lassiter finished with 12.
Star got 44 points, 19 rebounds, and seven assists from Ratliffe albeit in a losing effort. Paul Lee scored 21 points for the Hotshots.
Game 4 will be on Friday at the MOA Arena.
