UNBLEMISHED. Arnaud Noah and the rest of San Beda remain a riddle for the rest of the field in the Filoil Preseason.

There is one team which is yet to experience defeat in the 2017 Filoil Flying V Preseason Tournament.

And with yet another convincing victory, San Beda College reinforced itself as the favorite to win it all.

NCAA Finals MVP Arnaud Noah showed the way as the Red Lions made quick work of Jose Rizal University, 73-57, on Wednesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.

Noah had 17 points to go along with four rebounds and was backstopped by Eugene Toba and Kemark Carino who combined for 19 markers and 14 boards.

Javee Mocon added his own seven points and 10 rebounds as the NCAA champions’ frontline completely dominated their counterparts especially in terms of rebounds, 51-31, and second chance points, 17-2.

With its seventh win in as many games, San Beda is still in the running for a tournament sweep. That’s not on their minds, however, as head coach Boyet Fernandez said, “For us, we’re not looking at a sweep. For us, the end result of how we played is what we’re looking for.”

Fernandez’s wards were in control from the get-go in this one and mounted a 12-point advantage, 41-29, at halftime.

The Heavy Bombers then clawed to as close as 43-50 late in the third quarter as the Red Lions kept their foot off the pedal for a bit. “Marami pa kaming kailangang matutunan in terms of execution. There are times na the players got out of the system,” Fernandez said.

After the re-entry of Noah who got together with Robert Bolick for a 14-2 run, however, San Beda re-established a 64-45 lead it would nurse until the final buzzer.

The Red Lions go for a perfect run in the elimination round when they take on playoff-hunting Ateneo de Manila University on Friday. “We’re taking it one game at a time so for now, we’re looking at number eight,” Fernandez expressed.

For JRU, Jed Mendoza was the high man with 15 points.

With Teytey Teodoro and Ervin Grospe only merging for 13 points, they were unable to keep up with San Beda and dropped their second straight game. They now stand at 5-3.

Still, the Heavy Bombers are assured of a slot in the quarterfinals as they own the tiebreaker against De La Salle University.

DLSU and Ateneo de Manila University, both 4-3, will vie for the fourth and final playoff berth in Group A on Friday.

A Blue Eagle win against San Beda will send them into the quarterfinals.

On the other hand, a Green Archer win against Colegio de San Juan de Letran coupled with an Ateneo loss will send the former into the quarterfinals.
