"Masakit na natalo kami, ito yung hugot namin para sa next conference." --- Mark Barroca.
Since winning a Grand Slam in 2014, Star has yet to return to the PBA Finals.
The Hotshots have come close twice this season but has been denied of an entry to the championships round by Ginebra and San Miguel in the Philippine Cup and Commissioner's Cup respectively.
Those two playoff exits now serve as the team's motivation heading into the season-ending Governors' Cup where they hope to finally break out and restore their status as the league's crown jewel.
"Masakit na natalo kami, ito yung hugot namin para sa next conference," Mark Barroca said after Star got eliminated from the Commissioner's Cup following a 102-109 Game 4 loss to the Beermen Friday.
Despite not making the Finals yet, Barroca is still sort of satisfied with Star making back-to-back Finals.
After all, after the disaster that was last season, the Hotshots out there competing for the Finals is better.
"Masaya lang kami na nasa semifinals pa rin kami kaysa ma-out ka, di ba?" Barroca said.
"Maraming team ang gusto mag-top four at may chance makapunta sa Finals, pero ngayon lang, hindi kami pinalad. Pero next conference, babalik kami," he added.
For now, the repeated semifinal exits will be considered as experience points as Star continues to work its way up back to a PBA title.
"Kulang lang kami sa experience. Na-drain din kami eh, yung team namin kasi rebuilding kami di ba? Bago lang kami, so yung experience, dun kami nawala," Barroca said.
