If Charles Rhodes wins the Commissioner's Cup with the San Miguel Beer, there will be tears. Happy tears.
After beating Star in the semifinals of the 2017 PBA Commissioner's Cup, San Miguel import Charles Rhodes almost cried.
He almost cried because he finally made it to his first-ever Finals as a pro. If he got emotional by winning a semifinal series, just imagine what happens if he actually wins a title with the Beermen.
There will be tears for sure. Happy tears.
"I've been in like five semifinals, so I know what it feels like. I know what the pain is, not to get to the Promised Land," Rhodes said ahead of the best-of-7 championship series against TNT KaTropa.
"That's why it was so emotional, that's why it was so emotional for me. If I win it [Commissioner's Cup], it's gonna be more emotional for me," he added.
And as if trying to win his first pro title is not enough for motivation, Rhodes is bringing in some back-up.
Rhodes says he'll fly in his wife and his mother so they could watch him chase his first ring and to celebrate his birthday which falls on Game 3 of the series.
"I'm flying my wife, and I'm flying my mother. My mother never seen me play overseas, she's never been overseas. So everything is going to be very, very emotional for me, and I want my mom to be here to witness that," he said.
"My birthday is for Game 3, on the 25th. The first time I ever play on my birthday. I'm usually at home, relaxing. So they'll come on my birthday, they'll be here on Game 3 on my birthday," Rhodes added.
