Pogoy once again repays coach Nash Racela's trust

Time and time again, RR Pogoy never fails to repay the trust given to him by coach Nash Racela.

The latest demonstration came Wednesday in Game 1 of the 2017 PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals as the rookie out of Far Eastern University scored a career-high 27 points, playing a big role for TNT as the KaTropa took the series opener against San Miguel Beermen.

With import Joshua Smith hurting and star guard Jayson Castro bothered by the hounding defense of the Beermen, Pogoy took over for the KaTropa, dropping 13 points in the fourth quarter alone in a scintillating display of no nonsense shooting.

With his confidence sky high despite being under the brightest of basketball lights, Pogoy attributes everything to the trust that Racela continues to give him despite his rookie status in the PBA.

"Nagpapasalamat ako kay coach Nash kasi binigyan niya ako ng kumpiyansa tapos sa lahat ng mga veterans, lahat ng mga teammates ko," Pogoy said on his composure many veterans wished they had.

"Kaya parang pag maglaro parang wala lang kasi lahat ng sinasabi nila, pag open, itira mo na," he added.

Playing his first PBA Finals game, Pogoy revealed that his veterans teammate made sure to remind him not to be consumed of the moment.

He didn't.

"Sabi nila enjoy the game kasi first Finals ko. Sabi enjoy lang, wag ma-pressure. Yun ang palagi sinasabi nila," Pogoy said.

With a Finals win and a new career high under his belt, Pogoy would like to move on and look forward to Game 2 of the series.

Facing the Beermen, even a rookie can figure out that this series is far from over.

"Masaya ako sa first game ko kasi Best Player kaagad tapos maraming shoot sa 3-points pero wala pa ‘to kasi Game 1 pa lang, malayo pa ‘yung series," Pogoy said.
