Chris Ross and the San Miguel Beermen scored an emphatic bounce back win against TNT, tying the 2017 PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals at one game apiece.
TNT literally had the best start to a game by a team in PBA playoffs and Finals history but still managed to lose at the hands of San Miguel Beer.
After surrendering 17 unanswered points against the KaTropa to start Game 2, the Beermen dominated the rest of the way to score an emphatic 102-88 victory Friday at the Big Dome, tying the 2017 PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals at one game apiece.
With Jayson Castro and Anthony Semerad leading the charge, TNT went on a 17-0 run in the first four minutes, the all-time longest unanswered run to start a game in PBA postseason history according to chief statistician Fidel Mangonon III.
San Miguel settled down after those initial four minutes and the Beermen dominated from the second quarter and beyond, leading by as many as 32 points before taking their first win in this best-of-7 series.
"Thank you Lord ano we were able to tie the series in spite of the bad start," a relieved Leo Austria said after the game.
"We thought 0-2 na but I think the players talagang gusto nila manalo and kitang-kita naman iba energy nila," he added.
After cutting TNT's 17-point lead to only eight after the first quarter, San Miguel went to work on defense in the second, limiting the KaTropa to only 11 points to take a 52-43 lead at the break.
Come the second half, the Beermen landed the haymaker, outscoring TNT, 38-19, in the third to effectively put the game out of reach. San Miguel slowed down in the final 12 minutes but it was all garbage time play as both teams opted to rest their starters early.
The locals carried the fight for San Miguel in Game 2 with June Mar Fajardo dropping 22 points and 11 rebounds. Chris Ross added another 20 on top of five boards and nine assists.
Arwind Santos and Alex Cabagnot finished with 16 and 13 points respectively.
Jayson Castro scored 14 points to lead TNT, 10 coming in during the opening period.
Game 3 is set for Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum.
