Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes is looking at Mike Myers, TNT's standby import for the Commissioner's Cup Finals, as a possible reinforcement for the Jones Cup in Taipei.
Until TNT actually decides to replace the hurting Joshua Smith in the ongoing 2017 PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals, Mike Myers will continue to be on standby and have tons of free time.
And not to waste any of that free time, the 6'8" reinforcement joined the Gilas Pilipinas practices Thursday at the Meralco gym, getting a feel of how the national team works under Chot Reyes.
With him likely to stick around at least until the mid-season conference wraps up, Myers has been added to the list of possible candidates for naturalization and Reyes has even thought about fielding him in for the William Jones Cup set to start on July 29.
"Well he's here. As you know he's the back-up for Joshua Smith. If things materialize, we're thinking of bringing him with us in the Jones Cup," Reyes said of Myers.
"Yeah for nor everyone that we could bring in, of course, are possible candidates. The urgent thing is for us to get an import or naturalized player possible for the Jones Cup," he added.
As for Myers, who showed up in training to keep himself sharp for if and when the KaTropa decide to play him in the Finals against the Beermen, he says he's ready for anything.
Even suiting up for the Philippines as a naturalized citizen.
"If that's what they want me to be, I'll be ready to play here, ready to help and show my talent," he said on the possibility of him replacing Andray Blatche.
"I'll be ready to suit up," Myers added on him playing in the Jones Cup. "I'll be ready, I'll practice with the team. I'll be ready for the games and be ready to help this team out."
