UNCLE 'BERT. Cleveland fan Robert Bolick just did his best impression of Kyrie Irving.

Robert Bolick remained the biggest thorn on the side of his former team De La Salle University.

His long-range missile in the dying seconds proved to be what buried the Green Archers and what brought San Beda College back onto the mountaintop of the Filoil Flying V Preseason Tournament.

Bolick suited up for DLSU for two years before transferring to Mendiola where he has spent the last two seasons; three counting his residency.

In a back-and-forth battle, of course, it was the transferee from Taft Avenue who had to take – and make – the last shot for the Red Lions. As head coach Boyet Fernandez put it, “At the end of the game, it should be Robert getting the ball and it’s either pick-and-roll or isolation. We got a pick-and-roll and they switched so Robert just took it.”

And so, with less than 15 ticks to go, Bolick found himself matched up against the much taller Santi Santillan. He then crossed over the ball a couple of times before rising for what was still a well-defended trey.

The ball touched nothing but net – just as the 20-year-old envisioned it just earlier in the day.

As it turns out, Bolick was already dreaming of drilling a game-winner way before the moment itself called for it. “Kaninang umaga, nanooed ako ng replay ng Game 7 (ng 2015 NBA Finals) kasi Cavs fan ako. Siyempre, nakita ko yung ginawa ni Kyrie na stepback tas tres,” he shared.

He then continued, “Sabi ko, sana mangyari yun kasi never pa nangyari sa akin na game-winning. Nung nandun na, sabi ko lang, buong-buo lang.”

And of course, just to make things all the more colorful, the Ormoc, Leyte’s biggest shot had to come against his former team. “Special ‘to kasi ang sama ng laro ko, ang ganda ng depensa nila, tapos naka-shoot pa rin ako ng three-points para manalo.,” he expressed.

He then continued, “Siyempre, kahit sino naman, kapag game-winning tapos championship pa, hinding-hindi makakalimutan yung moment.”
