May challenge na talaga. Kapag tumitira ako may challenge na talaga -- Roger Pogoy
That’s two big fat eggs for Talk ‘N Text rookie guard Roger Pogoy.
A game after his infamous ‘nutcracker’ incident against San Miguel Beer’s Arwind Santos and two matches since his career-best outing, the former Far Eastern University standout’s dry spell continued in Game 3 of the 2017 PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals.
He played for 38 minutes, but threw bricks all game long at the packed Big Dome, going 0-of-9 from the field in the KaTropa’s 97-109 loss against the Beermen that left TNT trailing the best-of-seven series, 1-2, Sunday night.
“Siguro bad game lang siguro,” said Pogoy, who went scoreless for the second straight game. “Bawi na lang sa next game.”
In his last two outings, the TNT guard missed all of his 13 shots, including six from behind the arc. He also flubbed a pair of charities in the KaTropa’s 94-104 Game 2 loss Sunday.
SMB hounded Pogoy with their choking defense the whole game, with Marcio Lassiter and Chris Ross taking turns to put a hand in his attempts or alter his shots, if not denying him the ball or a good look at the basket.
This was a lesson learned by the Beermen the hard way when Pogoy torched them with a career-best 27 points in a 10-of-20 shooting clip, including five treys in TNT’s 104-102 victory in Game 1.
“Grabe lang sila mag-close out. Dati kasi pinapabayaan lang ako, ngayon grabe na sila mag-close out so ‘yun,” he said. “May challenge na talaga. Kapag tumitira ako may challenge na talaga.”
Despite Pogoy’s misfiring stretch, KaTropa head coach Nash Racela’s confidence remains the same for his former Tamaraws ward.
“Okay lang as, again, as long as he's making the right decisions, taking the shots that he needs to take,” he said. “Kung open, ganun. If it doesn't go in, walang problema, ganoon talaga.”
Pogoy still filled up the stats box with 10 boards, three assists and a block shot.
“Kasi ang trabaho ko talaga dito sa team ay ‘yung depensa and ‘yung mga little things. Rebound, depensa so parang bonus na lang sa akin kung makaiskor ako ng malaki,” said Pogoy, whose lone highlight in Game 2, so to speak, was an uppercut on Santos’ nether regions that led to him getting slapped with a P30,000 fine. “(Kahit zero) basta magawa ko lang ang trabaho ko at saka manalo kami.”
Talking about the incident with Santos, he said it's water under the bridge now.
“Wala na yun, no comment na ako. Nag-sorry na ako. Wala na tapos na ‘yun,” said Pogoy.
