We made a lot of turnovers, especially me -- Jayson Castro
Even grizzled veterans suffer from an off night.
Jayson Castro, considered as Asia’s best point guard, is no exception.
The Talk ‘N Text court general threw away the ball just a pair of errors short of the total turnovers that the whole San Miguel Beermen committed in Game 3 of the 2017 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Sunday night at the Big Dome.
It was a hellish outing for Castro and the KaTropa as they committed 23 turnovers, including 15 in the first half in TNT’s 97-109 loss that pulled the squad to a 1-2 deficit in their best-of-seven championship series against the Beermen.
The most glaring aspect of KaTropa's error-filled outing was Castro’s contribution: he committed 10 turnovers, six coming in the first 24 minutes of play, mostly forced by the Beermen’s pesky defense.
“Maganda ‘yung depensa nila on our ball screens,” said Castro. “At the same time, we made a lot of turnovers, especially me.”
“Siguro ‘yung game na ‘yun, sobrang sama ng decision making ko,” he added. “Sobrang every time na ako ‘yung may hawak ng bola o ako ‘yung gumagamit ng ball screen, naka-focus sila agad sa akin.”
SMB converted 26 points off TNT’s turnovers.
It didn’t help the KaTropa that Castro was also responsible for some spotty playmaking, dishing out just three assists in 31 minutes of play. He averaged seven assists in their first two Finals games.
“’Yung mga ginagawa kong assist before, ngayon na-anticipate nila,” said Castro.
Game 4 is on Wednesday.
“Siguro sa part ko, kailangan ko mag-adjust,” said Castro of their next game. “At the same time, we need to protect the ball.”
