Kiefer Ravena and Ray Parks banner a star-studded SEA Games lineup for Gilas Pilipinas.
While it may not be as powerful as the team that won the 2017 SEABA Championships, the Philippines will still send a star-studded lineup to Malaysia for the 2017 Southeast Asian Games.
Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes revealed the team set to compete in the August 19-30 tournament in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, with guys like Kiefer Ravena and Kobe Paras leading the way.
Aside from Ravena and Paras, who are fresh from representing the Philippines in the 2017 FIBA 3x3 World Championships in France, Ray Parks is also part of the lineup along with Almond Vosotros, Von Pessumal, Kevin Ferrer, Carl Bryan Cruz, Raymar Jose, Mike Tolomia, and Troy Rosario.
Baser Amer, added to the Gilas pool as Meralco's non-cadet representative also made the team while Fil-German Christian Standhardinger completes the cast.
"We wanted to make sure to see the guys first before we made the final decision but like I told the team earlier, we had to submit something to beat the deadline. There's always a possibility for changes when people, God forbid, get injured or don't come to practice," Reyes said on the SEA Games lineup.
With practice kicking off this week on Tuesday, all members were present except for Rosario and Standhardinger.
The former NU Bulldog is still playing for TNT in the 2017 PBA Commissioner's Cup Finals while Standhardinger was set to arrive in the country late Tuesday night and will join practice Wednesday.
"For now, the way we're looking at it, that's the kind of lineup that we're hoping to field sa Southeast Asian Games. It's a combination of the cadets and the new guys plus two PBA veterans in Amer and Rosario," Reyes added.
The Philippines remains as the gold standard when it comes to basketball in the ASEAN region with the country winning 17 championships in the event.
