Carl Bryan Cruz is proving that he belongs in the national team.
With so many players fighting for limited Gilas Pilipinas roster spots, Carl Bryan Cruz just made his latest case for the national team.
Playing against Blackwater in a tune-up game, the Alaska rookie forward exploded for 22 points to lead Gilas to a 105-101 win.
More importantly, CBC was clutch for the national team, hitting five straight points that broke a 95-all tie in the end game to give Gilas the separation it needed.
With head coach Chot Reyes continuing to play a combination of the Jones Cup and SEA Games rosters in tuneup games, Cruz's explosion comes in handy in him proving that he belongs to the national team.
"Every practice, every game, gusto ko i-prove sa kanila na deserving ako dito sa Gilas," he said.
"Gusto ko maipakita sa kanila na pinagtatrabahuhan ko yung slot ko," Cruz added.
Cruz made both lineups for the Jones Cup and the SEA Games.
Flashing an effective inside-outside game, Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes sees Cruz as a possible replacement for Ranidel De Ocampo in the national team.
"CBC plays the role of Ranidel De Ocampo in this team," Reyes said.
"He knows what's expected of him, the key now for CBC is to be able to do that on a consistent basis," he added.
