National team head coach Chot Reyes released the Gilas Pilipinas pool for the 2017 FIBA-Asia Cup on Saturday and the SEABA 12 make up half of it.
With a month before the 2017 FIBA-Asia Cup, Gilas Pilipinas finally released its 24-man pool for the continental championship in Lebanon.
National team head coach Chot Reyes released the list on his Twitter account on Saturday with the usual suspects returning for another tour of duty for Gilas Pilipinas.
Naturalized center Andray Blatche leads the group and is followed by Jayson Castro, the reigning two-time best point guard in Asia.
Three-time PBA MVP June Mar Fajardo is also in the mix while the rest of the SEABA crew in Calvin Abueva, Japeth Aguilar, Raymond Almazan, Jio Jalalon, Allein Maliksi, RR Pogoy, Terrence Romeo, Troy Rosario, and Matthew Wright make up half of the pool.
Gilas cadets like the returning Mac Belo, Carl Bryan Cruz, Kevin Ferrer, Kobe Paras, Kiefer Ravena, Ray Parks, Mike Tolomia, and Christian Standhardinger are also in consideration while PBA veterans Baser Amer, Kevin Alas, and Norbert Torres likewise made the list.
A surprise name in the Gilas pool is Rain or Shine's Gabe Norwood. A veteran of the national team since 2007, Norwood was out of the original pool that was revealed earlier this year.
He last played for the Philippines in 2016 during the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament.
The 2017 FIBA-Asia Cup will run from August 8-20 in Beirut and Gilas is part of Group B with rival China, Qatar, and Iraq.
Although all 16 teams from the FIBA-Asia Cup will compete in the first round of the FIBA World Cup qualifiers, the tournament will crown one true champion in for both Asia and Oceania.
