NLEX takes early Govs' Cup lead after win over Kia
Kevin Alas and the NLEX Road Warriors take over the early lead in the Governors' Cup after beating Kia.

NLEX has some horrible memories of losing a 20-point lead at the MOA Arena.

Well, that didn't happened this time although it almost happened again.

The Road Warriors scored another victory in the 2017 PBA Governors' Cup, taking a 100-93 decision over Kia Sunday to improve to 2-0 for the first time this season, tying a franchise-best start.

Dating back to the Commissioner's Cup, NLEX has now won four straight games, second longest in team history.

Fresh from a big win over Alaska on opening day, the Road Warriors were on point early in the game, opening up a 32-13 lead after a 9-0 run in the first quarter.

NLEX dominated the entire game, leading by as many as 27 points, 78-51, save for some moments in the fourth quarter when the Picanto made a rally to cut the deficit down to five points.

However, the Road Warriors' lead was more than enough for them to hold on for the win and send Kia to an early 0-2 deficit in the standings.

"It's a nice feeling to be putting together a streak. The confidence level is getting better. We were really excited before this game because there is something good that is happening within the team," head coach Yeng Guiao said.

"I was so excited that I came into the room early," he even joked as he was on the press room early to watch the rest of the contest. In the fourth quarter, he was called two technical foul in a span of one minute to earn his first ejection of the conference.

Import Aaron Fuller had another solid outing for NLEX, finishing with 24 points and 19 rebounds. Kevin Alas and Carlo Lastimosa emerged as the top locals, going for 13 points each.

Markeith Cummings led the way for Kia with 30 points but the Picanto run was a little late to truly turn the game around. Glenn Khobuntin added 15 markers.

The scores:

NLEX 100 - Fuller 24, Alas 13, Lastimosa 13, Quiñahan 11, Taulava 8, Al-Hussaini 6, Mallari 6, Soyud 6, Baracael 5, Villanueva 5, Fonacier 3, Ighalo 0, Tiongson 0, Monfort 0, Rios 0.

KIA 93 - Cummings 30, Khobuntin 15, Jaime 13, Celda 8, Paniamogan 6, Elorde 6, Yee 4, Corpuz 4, Camson 3, Salva 2, Nimes 2, Caperal 0, Galanza 0, Teng 0, Ballesteros 0.

Quarterscores: 36-18, 64-40, 83-70, 100-93.
