Gilas earns 4th place in Jones Cup after whipping Iran
Gilas earned a 6-3 mark, finishing in fourth place behind Canada, Lithuania, and South Korea.

Despite a rocky stint in Taipei, Gilas Pilipinas ended its 2017 William Jones Cup campaign on a high note.

The Philippines dropped rival Iran, 90-82, Sunday at the Taipei Peace International Basketball Hall, picking up its sixth win in the nine-day joust.

Gilas earned a 6-3 mark, finishing in fourth place behind Canada, Lithuania, and South Korea.

The Philippines took control in th fourth period, taking a 15-point lead, before settling for an 8-point victory.

Mike Myers played bif for Gilas, scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds. His thunderous slam off a pretty spin move in the fourth was the exclamation point to the rousing victory by the Philippines.

Matthew Wright capped another impressive tournament for the national team, going for 20 points in his second straight game as a starter. Christian Standhardinger finished 13 off the bench.

Despite failing to defend the country's championship in the Jones Cup, Gilas Pilipinas still played relatively well, save for its disppointing defeat to eventual champions Candada on opening day and its loss to Korea when the team shot four percent from three-point range.

Gilas will now move on to the FIBA-Asia Cup in Lebanon and the Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia next month.
