Well, Globalport narrowly avoided a Phoenix meltdown this time around.

The Batang Pier are on the board in the 2017 PBA Governors' Cup after taking a 100-91 victory over the Fuel Masters Wednesday at the Big Dome.

Globalport led by as many as 30 against Phoenix only to see the Fuel Maters cut it to five in the final two minutes. Fortunately, the Batang Pier figured things out now to score their first win in the season-ending joust.

"Good win for us. It's a good thing that we were up by more than 20 points," head coach Franz Pumaren said.

The Batang Pier have terrible history of blowing big leads to Phoenix in the fourth quarter. Last December 28, 2016, Globalport lost a 26-point lead in the fourth as the Fuel Masters completed a Philippine Cup stunner at the Cuneta Astrodome.

"I think we started to relax. We enjoyed the game too much and everybody was doing their own thing. They thought that Phoenix would not give a fight. That's what happens when we delve away with our game plan," Pumaren added.

A game after getting almost nothing from its import, Globalport drew a big outing from new reinforcement Murphey Holloway.

Holloway debuted with 29 points and 26 rebounds, anchoring the Batang Pier from start to finish.

Terrence Romeo added 21 points in a starting role.

Phoenix, who dropped to 2-1, got 32 points, 17 rebounds, and five assists from import Eugene Phelps in a losing cause.

Down by 30, 45-75, the Fuel Masters went on a furious rally in the final 12 minutes, cutting the deficit to five, 83-88, near the two-minute warning before Globalport would recover and cruise for the win.

The scores:

GLOBALPORT 100 - Holloway 29, Romeo 21, Arana 13, Pringle 11, Anthony 9, Grey 5, Van Opstal 4, Guinto 3, Pennisi 3, Ababou 0, Cortez 0, Mamaril 0.
