Kevin Alas has been balling in the 2017 PBA Governors' Cup.
Despite another strong outing, Kevin Alas almost cost NLEX a win Wednesday.
Tied at 108-all late in the first overtime of their matchup with Rain or Shine, Alas committed a crucial foul on a jumpball against Chris Tiu.
Tiu made two free throws on the other end that gave the Elasto Painters a two-point lead with six seconds to go.
Naturally, he heard it from coach Yeng Guiao after NLEX called a timeout. Fortunately for him, he quickly redeemed himself and made the game-tying layup to send the game to a second overtime.
The Road Warriors ended up winning the game and improved to 3-0 for the conference.
Alas posted a new career-high of 24 points on top of 10 rebounds and five assists.
"Coach Yeng called me out dun sa offensive foul, parang napagalitan niya ako," Alas said.
"Ayun, I had to make a good pass, binalik sakin yung bola. I saw the opportunity para maka-shoot. Thankfully, nakabawi agad," he added on their final play of the first overtime.
Taking a double overtime win, Alas said NLEX's character is getting stronger although it's too early to celebrate anything.
There's still more work to be done.
"It’s a good thing na na-test yung character nung team. Two overtimes, nasubukan yung team," he said.
"We have nothing to celebrate about it cause it’s still early, pero it’s a good thing na we’re doing good now," Alas added.
